Conclusion
The convert is marketed as an allround kite for beginners and performance freeriders. The flight characteristics of the convert are very well balanced. For beginning kitesurfers the Convert offers stability, comes with a “sheet and go” button. To contol the kite very little pressure is required. The convert reacts quickly to steering commands and gives very good feedback though the steering lines. The power buildup is gradual and predictable. The safety system works well and the kite is easy to relaunch.
Freeriders will appreciate the pop and the unhooked handling of this kite. Wave-riders will like this kite for the reaction speed to steering commands at any level of depower. Shorter kiters (smaller people) might find the depower stroke a bit long, but with some adjustment and the right setup this can be solved.
The convert likes to move to the edge of the wind-window, together with the pressure and the feedback the Convert offers great upwind ability.
We tested the kite in different conditions, including gusty winds ranging from 15-26 knots. I was impressed with the ease with which the Convert absorbs the gusts, the pressure buildup in gusts was gradual, which makes the Convert a n easy and very dependable kite to fly
Basics
Total depower
Long depower range, total depower at the end of the range.
Kite re-launch
Easy to relaunch using the steering lines
Windrange
Safety system
Total depower and push-safety.
Kite stability
Tested in gusty conditions (15-26 Kts.) The kite did not tilt when in the air and the was no expolsive power buildup.
Oldskool
Lift
Glide phase
The kite is straight above you during the glide (small steering command is enough to increase the glide)
Low-end
The constant steering pressure and the small turning circle in combination with the direct power-buildup give it a good low end.
High-end
Sheet & go kite. In the whole depower range the kite control remains good. Even when overpowered the kite steering is still light.
Wave
Turning circle
Turns over its tip (tipturn), because of the direct reaction to steering this is a fast kite.
Steering with low line tension
The kite steering remains good throughout the whole depower range.
Feedback at edge of wind window
Kite gives good feedback anywhere in the wind-window.
Reaction to steering action
Action gives immediate reaction!
Race
Acceleration
Maximum speed
Going upwind
The kite tends to move to the edge of the wind window, there it has power and is easy/light to control. this makes it easy to go upwind.
