Kite

3 Strut SLE Freestyle/Allround kite

Designers Goals

The Slingshot RPM is the original “Open C” kite which has revolutionized the kite world almost as mush as when the Bow kites entered the market. The RPM evolved to become the kite that made Youri Zoon the world kitesurfer champion. It has become a riders favorite throughout the world among both beginners and advanced riders.
The RPM 2012 is built on the same platform as the 2011 version, that is Open-C canopy and Slingshot’s patented Split Strut technology. Features that pushes kite design into a whole new level. Slingshot claims that they have refined the “Full Suspension Bridle” and modified the wing tip attachment points to optimize kite performance and to deliver complete tuning customization. These extra features and the new kite size 7m allows complete versatility in all conditions and all riding styles.

Conclusion

The Slingshot RPM has changed significantly compared to the 2011 model. In 2011, the Slingshot was a technical kite that demanded a lot of kite feeling for optimal performance. Timing and kite placement were crucial skills for pop and lift. The 2012 version of the RPM has become a lot friendlier. It still delivers that pop and sweet spot freestylers look for in a kite, but demands a lot less technical skills. In our opinion, this is a positive development and should increase this kite's popularity.

The 2012 RPM is now comfortably placed between the Rally (entry-level/wave) and the Fuel (freestyle). It has become suitable for a wide audience yet still retains the performance possibilities world champion Youri Zoon is looking for in a kite!

So, you might ask, how is that possible? Simply put, because of the RPM's finely balanced character profile. It's easier going in its base characteristics, has a good depower and is stable with a well defined feedback throughout the entire flight path. The pop and boost, which could backfire, are now well-hidden behind the level of skill and timing. All in all, the 2012 RPM is a fine example of listening to your audience and finetuning the kite characteristics. This has led to a high performance kite that's also useful for Youri Zoon fans!

Comments:
I like a kite when I know where it is. The slingshot RPM is great in his class. The shape of the new 2012 RPM is a bite more C kite. The kite is extremely stabile and you will know on every moment where the kite is.
Also it's providing great freestyle skills, with the easy of a sle/bow/hybrid kite. The RPM is made for a big group of people. from free rider,s to hardcore freestylers as well.

Great and helpful review, Youri! As the 9m and 10m are so close together, is there a preference you can state?
