Kite
High performance allround SLE 3 strut kite
Designer goals
The Sculp is our high performance kite which is suitable for pretty much every rider. Completely re-worked and improved for 2013 it performs exceptionally well as an all-round freeride and freestyle kite. The new shape of this kite - with increased aspect ratio - provides more power, better hang time and increased lift. Through using the highest quality Dacron from Germany, Ripstop from Japan and from re-designing the shape of the struts, we were able to reduce the weight of the kite and significantly improve its performance. The new strut design also makes the kite fly faster and provides more pop, and the improved bridle line system and bar improvements result in quicker reactions and a more direct feel for the rider. The new bridle line system, including swim proof pulleys, is more durable and ensures even distribution of power throughout the kite.
Put simply: the 2013 Sculp is better, faster and stronger.
On the water and the Sculp has instant turning response, reacts to bar input immediately and it feels like there is no distance between the rider and the kite. Due to its profile and the lightweight benefits of the 3-strut construction, the Sculp is able to cut through the air and generate loads of power, and with such quick responses and speed, powered kite loops or huge hangs in the air become ever more straightforward. The Sculp is a perfect tool for progressing from simple jumps to unhooked freestyle tricks, and the simple relaunch will make the learning process much smoother as the Sculp pops back up almost automatically and you’re good to go again.
As with all CrazyFly products, the Sculp demonstrates the highest standards of quality both in materials and manufacture. It’s the perfect combination of great value, high quality and performance at a fantastic price.

Conclusion
Crazy fly is a renowned board brand but their Sculp kite series has also appeared on our radar as characteristically good kites. Now, in 2013, the Sculp has amazed us again! The Sculp has been balanced out further and has some good characteristics that fit nicely together.
For active wave riders it offers a very small turning circle, a good low-end and a high-end with total depower. In its high-end and depowered, it remains very controllable. For allround kiters, the Sculp has a very broad windrange: the good low- and high-end indicate you can have fun between 12 (skim/surf board) and 24 knots.
So are there any improvements to be made? The canopy could possibly be a little calmer in its high-end, the gliding phase after the huge lift could be a little longer and small things like the fact that the lines tend to bunch when rolling off the bar.
The bar however, has been redesigned and the safety has improved (2 depower lines instead of 1). 2 line safety's are better when the kite is depowered completely after pulling the safety. This is the case for the Sculp, since you are now able to relaunch quickly after pulling the safety.
So the Crazy Fly Sculp 2013 is lots of fun, a really playful wave and all-around kite!
Basics
Kite stability
High end restless in the air, not on the bar
Kite re-launch
Safety system
Good depower in the whole windrange, 2 line safety on the frontlines
Windrange
Because of its total depower and controled steering when depowered
Total depower
Great in all wind conditions, his strongest point
Oldskool
Glide phase
High-end
Great control sometimes canopy flatters but no loss of control
Lift
Makes it a high end kite
Low-end
Center strut gives the Sculp a round profile and lots of grunt, bridle setting is nicely tuned because it has a wide range of total depower
