Rider profile

A rider who mixes hooked and unhooked freestyle tricks. Loves huge jumps and kite loops. Likes to surf powered with a kite.

Designers goals

The all new FX kite effortlessly bridges the gap between freestyle and freeride to create the perfect crossover kite. The new three strut, highly responsive platform gives riders the much needed power for explosive acceleration and the perfect amount of boost for huge lofty airs. The expanded “C” shape arc allows for aggressive kiteloops with the ability to hit the zenith in time for a soft landing. Its positive and direct steering as well as its quick relaunch make it perfect for intermediate to advanced riders.

Features

  • Explosive pop and great hang time
  • Great line slack for unhooked riding
  • Forward pull for kiteloops
  • Excellent for vertical boosts
  • Highly responsive and direct steering
  • Smooth power delivery
  • More drive than a traditional C shaped kite
  • Predictable handling
  • Quick recovery
  • Good upwind performance

Kite surfing review Cabrinha FX 10m 2015

Test conditions

wind: 14 - 33 knots

water: flat, chop, small waves

bar set-up: standard 22m

kite set-up: fabric set-up

Conclusion

Cabrinha made a totally new kite serie. This Cabrinha FX has an open C-kite shape and you can't compare it with the usual delta/bow shaped wings like the Switchblade. This kite is reactive, short turning and overall a very playful kite. Great for intermediate and expert riders who like to challenge themselves. This is the first year of the Cabrinha FX serie! So yes, it can use a bit of tuning like all first new kite series do. A bit more low-end, a bit more steady leading edge in its 22+ high end and maybe a more cleaner & lighter bar, but that's it. Riding the FX was a real adventure. So many possibilities to explore!
Great job. Well done!

Basics

Safety system

Difficult Easy

Good total depower, Cabrinha bar is a bit heavy and with lots of features. In our eyes the bar can be more clean with the same high safety standard

Windrange

Limited Wide

Depends a bit of your equipment set-up is. The FX isn't really powerful in its low end. Good for learning unhooked tricks, just take a wider freestyle board.

Kite re-launch

Difficult Easy

Total depower

Still pressure Total depower

Kite stability

Unstable Stable

Very stable one of it's best kite characteristics

Oldskool

Low-end

Small range Large range

Lift

Gradual Explosive

Pretty explosive, but not too much! Intermediate riders will love the control while jumping.

Glide phase

Short Long

First, we thought, great lift okay gliding phase, but in its high end the FX has a great float. The kite will stay deep in the wind window and with some technical tricks you can float like a snowkiter from the mountains

High-end

Small range Large range

Nice, great lift, control, gliding. A real performer

Wave

Steering with low line tension

Not so good Good

Turning circle

Large radius Small radius

Reaction to steering action

Slow Fast

Bad kites aren't made any more! Just know your most important kite characteristics.
This new Cabrinha is a special kite, build for a certain goal. Made by a rider who's looking for a certain kite feel. The FX is responsive, short turning and a incredible stable kite. The lift and boost are pretty gradual and always a good feedback. That combination of characteristics makes the kite great for intermediate riders. Experts can get more performance out of this FX, just ride it in its high-end for bigger kite loops, or use its unhooked potential in less wind. Cons? Maybe the leading edge profile in its very high end could be a bit more stable. Don't forget this is the first open C-shaped Cabrinha, the first year of a very playful FX serie... well done.
