Rider profile

Special wave kite for riders who are looking for a easy & smooth kite

Designers goals (manufacturer text)

The Æneema belongs to a new realm of hybridised kite, something that slots in beside the Noise Pro and the Ian Alldredge TDZ as your go-to for a spectrum of conditions.

Our head designer Dano See has created a featherweight kite that is stable, fast turning and suits a ‘sheet-in-and-go’ style of riding. The Æneema’s direct on/off power and forward-flying profile is fast, responsive and delivers smooth power at a moment’s notice. Turn the power off and let the kite drift while you carve up the face or flick it on and cruise through mushy sections. The power is there when you need it and our signature also Drift lets you ride the wave when you want to.

The Æneema’s predictability and simplicity provides riders the total package and that feeling of security whether you’re a beginner or an expert. I guess fast turning, smooth power delivery and unmatched Drift really sums it up!” – Dano See, Head Designer.

“The Æneema is particularly inspired by our Ambassadors. We wanted to create something user-friendly that performs optimally all types of conditions and provides our riders from all around the world with the best product, no matter where they kite.” – Ben Wilson.

Everything we create is designed and built for wave riding. That means the materials are tough, construction is tight and the customer receives a product that lasts. Nothing tests a product like time in the surf, and we can happily say we’ve tested the AEneema in Europe, Australia, Fiji and Mexico with a range of conditions and testers. And the verdict? The AEneema is the ultimate all-rounder. See for yourself.

Comments:
This is my third generation of BWS kites. The Aeneema feels very much like part of the BWS family. A combination of characteristics from the original Noise, the Noise Pro and some new.

Build quality is outstanding. Large standard inflate nozzle makes pumping up quick and easy. The leading edge is also much smaller diameter than the Noise Pro which makes for a quick fill. All BWS models share simplicity as a core part of their DNA. No pulleys on the bridles, direct steering connections and no configuration or tweaks to make. Just connect and go.

Launching is easy. The kite rolls onto its edge even in light air and quickly launches or relaunches. Bar throw is sufficient to completely depower the kite, increasing safety of self launches. Steering is light, but quick. Bar pressure is sufficient to provide good feedback on kite position, but does not throw off your balance when riding waves.

Kite position is farther forward in the window than the Noise Pro or TDZ kites. For side onshore this works well to place the kite just in front of the wave As you drift it down the line. The other advantage is that it gives excellent upwind ability. I am routinely riding my 8m when others are looking to 9 and larger kites.

Flying the kite is straightforward. Like all BWS kites, power delivery is very smooth with no abrupt edges. The kite responds best to slightly sheeting out on the upstroke and sheeting all the way in when on the downstroke. It doesn't back stall if fully sheeted on the upstroke, but it would rather fly faster and you will generate more power with a bit less sheeting.

Turning is very fast. The 8m initially felt more like a 7m to me. Faster turning than my old Noise 6m from 2012. Despite the quick turns, the kite is still remarkably stable. Drop into a wave and let the bar out and the kite will just float and drift. Even with completely slack lines from a mist-timed cutback or hack, the kite will just dangle there. It requires a bit more attention than a Noise Pro, but generally you do not have to think much a bout these kites and where they are positioned.

Depower is fantastic. Throw the bar out and you will hardly know it is there. On a clean wave you can just let go of the bar and pump down the line while the kite floats along.

Overall, I have been a fan of BWS since the Noise back in 2012. The Noise Pro was really an advancement over the original noise. The Aeneema is yet another refinement yet shares the DNA of its brothers. Great for more onshore conditions and people that like a quicker turning kite.

The new Aeneema is all about Drift, soft kite feel and sheet & go. The Aenema had the best Drift I have felt for a long time. With side onshore winds and steep waves, I sometimes overtook the kite, but this kite drift so fast I didn't lose any tension on the lines. The kite feel is soft with a sheet & go feel. Tune the Aeneema with the clam-cleat for the best flying performance, This kite is a tip turning kite and if I had to much tension on the back lines the Aeneema did back stall a bit during the turn. Less tension on the back lines gave the Aeneema more room to fly and gain speed for a great upwind performance. Even in its lower wind range I had some great upwind tacks.
Resume, amazing drift, easy upwind performance, soft power, tune it and have fun in the waves!
