Rider Profile

Wave and allround riders who like a fast kite with a strong low-end

Designers goals (manufacturer text)

The Neo is the definition of a high performance wave kite and continues to meet the needs of the rider with ease. Thanks to the design concept behind the Neo and the power it delivers, riders are able to use at least 1-2sqm less in comparison to any other kite. This advantageous aspect further enhances its already rapid turning abilities, effortless float down the line, and responsiveness to handling which when combined, ensures ease of manoeuvrability on the wave. Taking wipeouts into consideration, we’ve made the Neo incredibly easy to relaunch so you can get up and away before the next wave hits. The new Anti-Snag leading edge tips will keep the kite tangle free no matter how bad the crash. For 2016, legendary kite designer Ken Winner has been tweaking the geometry of the Neo to achieve even more depower, whilst maintaining the famous low end power delivery. This provides an intuitive feel to the hands, leaving you to concentrate on the wave rather than where the kite is. Ken has also worked on a new tip strut shape, making the Neo even faster through the turn. If you want to ride the best waves in the world, you’ll need the best wave kite on the market to take you there. The Neo is the ultimate engine for slaying the waves!

With the Hydrofoil an 15-20 knots playing with the 6m Neo 2016. This small 6m kite is fun to play with, especially with the hydrofoil. The drift of the NEO 6m is great. Lowend or high end! Never slack lines when you ride towards the kite. This small kite is fast, lots of feedback and control. The boost of the Neo is pretty strong. Down looping was a bit scary foiling 90cm above the surface :-)

The new Neo is pretty similar as the 2015 model. You can see some small changes in the canopy panels. The airflow over the canopy looks clean, powered and depowered. That makes the Neo very solid in the air. The Neo has a grunt feeling, always pull. Sits pretty deep in the wind window if you compare it with the North Evo. Great & clean angle of attack with a short depower stroke. Gives the Neo on the edge of the window a sheet and go feeling. Overpowered the Neo isn't very forgiven. If you steer the Neo through the powerzone, don't pull on the bar. It will shoot you away, the Neo won't back down or release its pressure.
If you like a playful kite with a great low end try the North Neo 2016

We used the new North Neo 2016 for kids. They could try the 7m in 11/15 knots of wind. The new Neo had no back stall, the 2015 model could back stall when kids ride the smaller kites in underpowered conditions. So a better stability on the edge of the wind window. The turning speed is also a bit better. The small test riders (9-12 years old) loved the direct reaction. So the new Neo looks promising for the younger riders.
