Designers goals (manufacturer text)

The FRS is the newest addition of the Kitech line up designed for fun on the water, land and snow. The kite has amazing stability, flying characteristics and performance!

 What is FRS standing for?

The FRS is true to the DNA of Kitech. It excels in Freeride and Freestyle. Although the FRS is super fast it is NOT a RACE kite and we are quite proud of that It was designed to be the most user-friendly and fun RAM (foil) kite on the market that would put a smile even on the most demanding hydrofoilers, landboarders, skiers, snowboarders or freestylers out there. The FRS flies effortlessly with direct and constant feedback and small to medium bar pressure. Due to its speed and medium aspect ratio, the lift is breathtaking, in flight control is constant, the hangtime is amazing and the re-entry is buttery soft.

Sizes: 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 m2

The FRS was created to achieve to following design goals:

  • Easy, user-friendly setup: Kitech uses the shortest possible bridle lines, by employing high-end German Dyneema lines. The lines are actually relatively thick to withstand wear and tear, keep length constant and most importantly the lines almost totally tangle free. A few shakes of the bridle system and you are ready to go.
  • Fast, easy and safe launch: the new valves let the kite to fill up exceptionally fast. The kite is controllable during filling. It is advisable to do this maneuver with open adjuster and pulled in bar (full power mode).
  • Higher performance, less drag: new, carefully chosen profiles combined with higher aspect ratio and higher numbers of cells
  • Faster flying speed, better upwind characteristics, smaller turning radius and more dynamic looping: optimized 3D shape, low drag profiles, smaller bridle drag, higher internal pressure
  • Higher and longer jumps: faster-flying speed, direct flying characteristics, optimized lines, and trim
  • Amazing drift: for wave and hydrofoil applications we managed to improve on the legendary drifting ability of the Fly4!
  • Low wind performance: especially important for hydrofoiling.
  • No wing tip folding during jibes: the Fly4! never had that annoying problem, quite common on race kites. FRS is also free of tip folding.
  • Easy and safe solo launch and landing: to get started on the FRS is fast and easy. It was, however, also important for us to keep the legendary relaunch of the Fly4!. The geometry and bridle setup makes relaunches (side or reverse) very easy. In addition, due to Kitech’s proprietary stitching technology, the kites can be relaunch even after 30 min in the water.
  • Kiteloop: making the loops faster, effortless even after 3 or 9 o’clock to Zenith. The pull through the loop is significantly reduced for less drag on hydrofoils and for safer megaloops.
  • Unhooked: increase kite stability and retain the legendary re-launching ability of the kite to be able to recover from every sketchy situation

Construction:

Closed cell kite with diagonal ribs and internal reinforcement system.

Bridle system:

Pre-stretched and insulated Dyneema lines from market-leading German manufacturer Liros.

Comments:
Bought this kite in Miami from Kitehydrofoilmiami.com. I've only had a couple sessions on this kite thusfar. I plan to use it for those days when the lulls drop below 10 knots when hydrofoiling. I use the Lift/MHL foils with slingshot dwarfcraft board (3'6") in San Francisco Bay. I can't really say much about it yet, but it is stable and light. The bar pressure is much lighter compared with Cabrinha Apollo & Switchblades. Hopefully it will stay in the air in 6-10 knots of wind. I really dread when any kite "hindenburgs" I'll add a more thorough review in the spring...

Have the 9m 6 months now and did around 30 sessions with it, mainly hydrofoiling.

This kite is so much fun to ride! Has an excellent windrange (around 8/9-24 knots on hydrofoil). Turns really quick for a foilkite and is super stable. Always feel where the kite is. Not a high performance race kite, but a very playfull, well build freeride and fun kite with a great light wind relaunch.

Comments:
Ride the 12m for about a year now and did around 100 sessions with it. Use only use it for hydrofoiling. After 100 sessions kite is still in very good condition and still flies very well.

The 12m is a very stable session saver. with long lines (25-27m) It will get you on a hydrofoil from around 5-6 knots to 17-19 knots with shorter lines (18-21m). Relaunch in light wind is excellent and easy. The FRS is not a race kite but a playfull relatively fast turning freeride foilkite. I have lots of fun with it

In 100 sessions I only had to swim 1 time :-)

Comments:
Rode the Kitech a few times on a hydrofoil in the low-end and mid wind range. This budget kite felt really good. Stable, fast reaction and great feedback. The design and building quality isn't top range but the performance is great. This foil kite is half price of a Flysurfer or Ozone and for Freeride kite characteristics (what 99% of the foilers need) it's a great kite. So if you are looking for a budget foil kite option. Try the Kitech!

Hi,
How did you feel that it compared vs say the Soul or Hyperlink in the following parameters:

- bar pressure
- turning speed
- power in the turns
- water relaunch
- air tightness / resistance to water entry when crashed onto the water
- low end windrange, esp resistance to tip tuck when low in wind window
- high end windrange / amount of depower available
- drift for foiling
- what size LEI would it compare to re power overall ?

Any downsides in your opinion to not having s
