Kite

Foil kite for racers and big-air pilots.

Designers Goals

Performance Redefined

Until the Speed2, there has never been a kite that represented the measure of things in lightwind performance and hangtime for two years in a row. It was definitely not easy to top this milestone in kite development.

After a 12-month development period, the introduction of new construction software, many hours of overtime, more than three time as much testing input from all around the world, as well as the addition of Andreas Hanrieder to our development team, Flysurfer has succeeded in raising the bar of high performance kites yet again with the Speed3.

When it comes to depower, agility and stability, the development team surrounding Armin Harich has just set the benchmark higher!

Flight Performance & Safety

Whether you are into racing, old-school freestyle, big-airs or light-wind cruising, the Speed3 sets a new benchmark and redefines performance and fun in all wind conditions. The Speed3 is distinguished by its legendary and unrivaled light-wind performance.

Depower within arms reach is very direct, easy and precise like no other kite in this class. Jumps have never been easier and lightwind kiting has never been that much fun with butter smooth landings and amazing hangtime…

Safety

Stability, especially in strong or gusty winds, has grown to a level previously unknown in this kite class. The Triple Depower System gives the Speed3 its unbelievable wind range. Despite a high aspect ratio, the Speed3 flies like it’s nailed to the sky and won’t get unpredictable, even with more power. This provides additional safety, and helps with jumps. The safety function underwent a complete redesign, in order to cover the wider wind range. The tapered leading edge with four lines provides for excellent flagging-out of the Speed3 on the FLS Safety with an even better relaunch.

Conclusion

We tested the Flysurfer Speed3 Deluxe in the snow. The edition Deluxe cloth is much lighter, which improves the low end, stability and ultimately its wind range. The Speed3 is a so-called closed cell kite, causing the air to remain in the kite. This might be an issue while snowkiting in the back country. On the meadow where we tested the Flysurfer Speed3 Deluxe, it was a truly fun experience flying this kite. It's a real soaring machine; if you have speed down the slope you can already soar in winds from up to 6 knots! In winds above 10 knots the kite is still well manageable. Still, in winds above 12 knots, despite its soft power, the Speed3 is really a kite for more experienced snow kiters. Provided you are in touch with the local thermals and aware of the angle of the slope, this is a sublime glider!

This kite is my low wind weapon. The only one that really flies in 6-7 knots and a big board. Super stable, great glide if you know how to jump with a foil and the best low end. It's a 21 wing so slower than others but you are the first one out. Also great for mountain boarding or snow kiting. But I prefer a 15m because it's faster and need less wind!

The most remarkable characteristics off the Speed 3 are:
-the lowend: The kite has an incredible windrange, with my weight i can do freestyle tricks in 11/12 knots and ride the kite with gust up to 30 knots.

- hangtime and lift: The speed 3 is a real flying machine, sheet in the bar and you will stay in the air for a loooong time!

The kite is really easy to set up and to launch by yourself, one of the greatest things about the set up is that you don't have to bring a pump to the beach.
Packing up the kite is really easy as well, as long as you do it the right way. A lot of people get scared by seeing all the lines, this isn't a problem at all, as long as you pack it up properly!

Hello,

it seems you missed to write in the review, what Speed3 size you have tested.
Probably 19m2 because of almost top end on 12 knots?

As you know: Speed3 is not only a snowkite but also a lightwind water weapon.

Would have been nice to see what the exact test results have been on snow + water for a different skilled rider (e.g 70-80kg), just to see how real results compare to flysurfer.com written down knots on land+water for a 75kg kiter.

Greetings

Thomas
