SLE freeride kite with 4 and 5 line options

Designers Goals

North Kiteboarding says about the Fuse 2011;

A dedicated free-ride / wave kite that already sparked the future of 4 line performance. The Fuse is a different kind of free-ride / wave kite with a huge wind range, light, predictable feel and great jumping qualities. Its unique and simple Attack Control Bridle gives the Fuse smooth, reactive steering that is especially evident when de-powered, making it a huge step forward in terms of manoeuvrability and directness on 4 lines. Additionally, the new AC Bridle gives you the ability to safely and completely de-power the Fuse on its back similar to a 5 line system. Easily accessible lowend power and extreme resistance to back-stalling gives the Fuse great light wind capabilities while the AC Bridle ensures direct de-power and a crisp bar feeling even in strong winds with easy push and pull power. The Fuse is built to last utilizing the newest Technoforce canopy material D2 – already since the first generation of the Fuse – that is more resistant to tearing than conventional material. Lazy pump simplicity will get you on the water quickly and easily when it counts. To ensure a 100% safety solution the Fuse can also be flown on the 5th Element if desired.

Bar

5line North kiteboarding 2011 barStill one step ahead, the fifth edition of our tried and tested 5th Element Bar is possibly the most effective and trustworthy safety system on the market. 2010 nearly any Kiteboarding magazine declared it the test winner. The Iron Heart VI requires minimal release forces and is not affected by harsh sand and saltwater conditions. The double de-power line in combination with the Sliding Stopper and Stopper Ball ensures that the bar is always where you want it to be in all situations. Our small, lightweight Vario Cleat allows you to quickly and easily adjust it to your desired de-power stroke while the system automatically trims your lines to the perfect length. If the dangling trim line has ever interfered with your flow in the past, you can now forget about it focus on your riding: Simply Velcro the dangling portion to the stopper ball so it’s never in your way. The Micro Loop is no longer an integrated feature, but for those who like the comfort of riding with fixed power, the system can quickly and easily be fitted.
Riders of all skill levels, from newcomers to pros, will benefit from the simplicity and functionality of the new 5th Element Bar Trust Bar and Iron Heart IV.

Conclusion

Even though the Fuse is an all-round kite, it does have a few characteristics that stand out. The Fuse scores high points on its total depower, high end, stability and direct steering. On top of that the Fuse also offers some great racing characteristics. However, once you are operating the Fuse in its low end you get a whole different kite with decreased performance. The Fuse’s good wave characteristics like the feedback, and kite reaction with low tension on the steering lines, change in the low end. The one characteristic which remains constant is the stability, so this is a kite suitable for people with gusty conditions at the home spot.
The North Fuse is a kite which was created with details in the shape, materials and flying characteristics…  this mix makes it difficult to place this kite in a standard category. Give the Fuse a try and find out for yourself if the Fuse fits with you, your style, weight and conditions.

Comments:
This kite is supposed to be very close to the Rebel, but with 4 lines. That´s exactly why I have choosen it. The Fuse is a good kite for freeriders, not for anything else: if you start riding waves, as I do, you will immediately find the limitations. The kite is not really responsive when you don´t have tension in the lines, this may lead to a quick stall and conseqient wash up in the waves. Additionally the kite is not super stable, meaning better to keep it moving constantly. Another limitation is who the kite pass through gusts, you feell them 100% on the bar and when it gets serious gusts the kite fltuctuate as jellyfish quite roughly.

On the other hand, it generates a lot lot lot of power that will pull you into incredible big airs and let you gliding like a eagle.

Therefore, If you are looking for big airs and a super power machine with 4 lines, the Fuse if for you. If you start riding a bit more waves and have smoother transitions, hoose somthing else.
6 kudos - +
